The cabinet on Wednesday approved a budget of 130 million baht to repair Mahidol Witthayanusorn School which was set ablaze by a Mathayom 5 (Grade 11) boy student on June 6, Deputy Education Minister Narisara Chawaltanpipat said.
The boy confessed to starting the fire at the boarding school in Buddha Monthon district in Nakhon Pathom province, citing stress as the reason for setting the blaze, which severely damaged one of the buildings which included the library.
School director Yuwadee Nakaphadungrat said in the wake of the blaze that in the entrance examination of Mathayom 4 students for academic year 2011, students whose grades are considered low would be required to undergo a psychiatric test and get a doctor's certificate to be admitted.
She said the boy student who set the fire at the school had left and returned to stay with his parents. He would be closely watched by the Mental Health Department.
