Produce 101 produces another K-pop singer.

Cube is one of Korea’s top music labels. When their trainees appear on Produce 101, everybody pays attention. The 15-year-old Yoo Seon-ho was a six-month trainee at Cube when he appeared on the show. He soon attracted a huge number of fans. And he has remained popular ever since, even though he hasn’t released any singles yet.

It’s not hard to see why Seon-ho is so popular. He’s charming, handsome, funny and unpretentious. These qualities led to him being cast in last year’s online comedy series, Mischievous Detectives. He also co-hosted the online beauty and variety show, The Cushion.

Cube allowed Seon-ho to do all these different jobs to help him develop his skills. They’ve also helped to build up his popularity. When he held a two-day fan meeting in Seoul, tickets quickly sold out. He was soon ready to meet fans in other countries. On December 23, he was in Thailand for Yoo Seon-ho Fan Meeting in Bangkok: Seon-ho’s Time.

At Chaengwattana Hall, Seon-ho walked onstage looking adorable in a red shirt and white sweater. He opened with the ballad “I’ll Give You Everything.” Though his singing wasn’t perfect, the fans gave him a wonderful reception. Seon-ho sang and played piano on the songs, “Spring Day” and “Marry Me,” and danced to several others. At one point, to the delight of his audience, he even sang a part of the Thai song, “Kon La Chan (We’re in a Different League),” originally by Jaonaay.

During one segment, he had to do a sports challenge. This included doing push-ups, jumping rope, hula-hooping and shooting a basketball, all of which he could do well. The last segment made Seon-ho very happy because he got to sample different Thai foods. After trying several dishes, he decided that Thai mango was his favourite.

The event ended with Seon-ho reading a thank-you letter to his fans, saying they made each day happy. He said that he was aware that his singing and performing needed to improve, but he was determined to do his best. He expressed his wish that everybody would continue to follow him in the future.

On the morning of the fan meeting, S Weekly was at Chaengwattana Hall for a press conference. Here are some highlights from the conference and the meeting.

How do you feel about your first visit to Thailand?

Seon-ho: When I got off the plane, I was surprised that it wasn’t as hot as I expected. I like this kind of weather though.

This is your first overseas fan meeting. Are you nervous?

Seon-ho: No. I’m not nervous. I’m looking forward to seeing my fans.

How did you feel when tickets to the Thai fan meeting sold out in five minutes?

Seon-ho: Before tickets went on sale, my parents and I were worried about whether anybody would want to come to the show. When we heard the tickets sold out so quickly, we felt thankful.

Do you still eat five times a day like you said on Produce 101?

Seon-ho: No. Now, I have three meals, but each one is very big.

Have you ever had Thai food before?

Seon-ho: Yes. I’ve eaten it in Korea. It was delicious. I really like pu phat pong karee (stir-fried crab curry).

If you have time, what would you like to do while you’re here?

Seon-ho: I want to go to a floating market. I enjoy wandering around, so I want to walk around the city.

Who were you closest to on Produce 101?

Seon-ho: Lai Kuan-lin. He promised that he’d come to visit me at home.
