Harry lands in Bangkok

One Direction fans got some bad news in 2016 when the band announced they were going on hiatus. Since then, Zayn Malik has released R&B songs, Niall Horan has been putting out more pop and Harry Styles released an album of songs inspired by music that your dad likes. So is he still popular with Thai pop fans?

TEEN SCREAMS

Thai fans adore Harry. At his recent concert at Impact Arena, the fans screamed with joy at everything Harry did. They screamed at his intro video, they screamed at his songs, they screamed at his chat in between songs, and, whenever he spoke Thai (He’d learned the Thai for “hello,” “make some noise” and “I love you.”) the screams were deafening.

SOLO SONGS

Harry opened his 17-song set with five tracks from his debut solo album, Harry Styles. The band played loud and well as Harry ran around the stage, showing off his energetic boy band moves. And he didn’t forget his One Direction fans. “Stockholm Syndrome” was the first of three 1D songs he played, followed by a cover of Ariana Grande’s “Just a Little Bit of Your Heart” and his new song, “Medicine.”

CLOSE UP

Harry then ran down the middle of the arena to a small stage, where he played two acoustic songs close to the screaming fans. He chatted between the songs, but if you’ve seen YouTube footage of his shows, you’ll already know that he says the same things at each show. Then he ran back to the stage, high-fiving on the way, to perform his big solo hit, “Sign of the Times.” The encore included a cover of a Fleetwood Mac song (ask your dad) before he closed with the rocking “Kiwi.”

Harry was full of energy and charisma for the whole show, and the screaming Thai fans showed him that there’s life outside One Direction.
