Films, TV and songs, and still only 18.

Jannine Parawie Weigel (Ploychompoo) never ceases to amaze us. After hitting three million subscribers on YouTube, the young singer has set her sights on global stardom. And it’s not just music that she’s focusing on. She has produced and directed her own short film, Black Moon. Her new TV show, Teen Dreams, is now on air. And she’s still only 18 years old.

With a movie under her belt, the young performer made another big decision by leaving her label MBO for Universal Music Thailand. Her first single with her new label is “Pak Rai Jai Rak (Bad Mouth, Good Love).”

S Weekly met up with the precocious Ploychompoo to talk about her film, TV show and music.

Why did you decide to make Black Moon?

After my contract with GMM Grammy expired, I wanted a project to work on. I’ve always been interested in horror films. I thought it was the great opportunity to work behind the scenes.

What did you learn from the experience?

I have more respect for the crew. The director doesn’t have total control. Filming requires teamwork. Everybody must cooperate in order to get the best outcome.

Which story in Black Moon do you like best?

My favourite is the first one, Kuen Raek Thee Gab Baan (The First Night Home). My character is from the North. I had to speak in a northern dialect for the first time, which was very challenging.

You did a five-week course at Berklee College of Music in the US. Can you tell us about it?

It was a fantastic experience. I learned a lot about music theory, ear training and performance movement. The atmosphere in the classes was great because we were all singers and musicians. I was happy to play music with them.

What was the inspiration for “Bad Mouth, Good Love”?

My mom wrote the song, but she’s shy to let people know that it’s her work. I often listen to her demos. I believe that people can relate to the lyrics because we sometimes speak harshly or use bad language that hurts the people we love, even though we don’t mean to do it.

Could you really date with somebody who has a foul mouth?

I’d need to know the reason. If he did it to hurt me, I couldn’t accept it. If he did on a sudden impulse, I might be OK with it.

Can you tell us about your first self-written English song “Ghostbuster”?

I was inspired by a post I saw on Facebook that used the term “ghosting.” It refers to when somebody you communicate with online suddenly disappears, like a ghost. That’s what the song is about. I decided to write a song in English because it can reach a wider audience. I took me an hour to finish it.

Tell us about your new TV show.

My new comedy show Dream Teen will be on Thai PBS from November 17. My character Namwaan is a student in a vocational school which is about to be closed down. The students and teachers team up to figure out a way to save the school. The show is hilarious. I laughed a lot during the shoot.
