Reading a Blackberry tablet may soon be as common as tapping out a message on the Blackberry's ubiquitous mobile phone keyboard.
A variety of different tablet computers will be appearing on the market this year (Read previous article).
The operating system that the new Blackberry tablet will use (renamed the Blackberry Tablet OS) will not be the same as the operating system used by the popular mobile phone, but rather the QNX real-time operating system used to control the US Army "Crusher Tank" (See article and video and read article).

SMARTPHONES: Research in Motion takes aim at Nokia's leadership spot by Suchit Leesa-nguansuk
BALI : Research in Motion (RIM), the maker of BlackBerry devices, this year hopes to beat Nokia in the smartphone segment and become market leader in Southeast Asia.
The Blackberry Playbook has a 7-inch multi-touch LCD display and comes equipped with a 1GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM, full Adobe Flash 10.1 and built-in support for HTML 5.
The Canada-based manufacturer will roll out its BlackBerry PlayBook tablet in the region, including Thailand, in the second quarter, priced below US$500.
"We are confident of being No. 1 in the smartphone market in this region within one year, overtaking the leadership from Nokia," Gregory Wade, RIM's managing director for Southeast Asia, said at last week's BlackBerry Devcon Asia 2011 on this Indonesian island.
International Data Corporation (IDC) research shows RIM was Southeast Asia's second-largest smartphone vendor last year.
Mr Wade said RIM will continue to expand its presence to improve customer response time. A Jakarta office was opened last year, as Indonesia is the company's biggest market in the region.
We are likely to set up a representative office in Thailand this year," he said.
RIM will also increase its marketing budget to strengthen its brand reputation in light of fiercer competition, with a special focus on social networks.
It plans authorised service centres to counter non-authorised dealers, while expansion of retail distribution channels will widen its customer base.
Meanwhile, RIM showcased its PlayBook at Devcon Asia 2011, which was held last Thursday and Friday. The device has a 7-inch multi-touch LCD display and comes equipped with a one-gigahertz dual-core processor, one-gigabyte of RAM, full Adobe Flash 10.1 and built-in support for HTML 5.
The tablet provides the full web experience, with high-performance multimedia and multi-tasking. Users can play games, open multimedia files and browse the web simultaneously.
RIM is introducing a beta version of its BlackBerry WebWorks software development kit for tablet operating systems, enabling developers to build integrated applications on standard web technologies for smartphones and PlayBook tablets. It has extended its offer of a free PlayBook for WebWorks developers to March.
At present, there are about 300,000 registered BlackBerry developers worldwide, with two million downloads a day from its application world.
Taylor Lessard, RIM's vice-president for global alliance and developer relations, said the Asia-Pacific was the fastest-growing region for the company last year.
IDC forecasts smartphone shipments in the Asia-Pacific will show a 40.3% increase from 2009-14, compared with 6.3% growth for the feature phone segment.
IMS Research, meanwhile, estimates annual smartphone shipments throughout Asia will quadruple by 2015, with the Asia-Pacific comprising 39% of global shipments.
"RIM will no longer be simply a smartphone company. We are positioning ourselves as a mobile computing firm including software and services," said Mr Lessard.
