Col Saksit Phuklam reported to Phayathai police on Wednesday morning and was formally charged with attempted murder relating to the hit-and-run incident last month that left a woman doctor in a coma.

He was accompanied by officers from the Judge Advocate General's Department and lawyers.

Col Saksit, director of the administrative office of the Royal Thai Armed Forces' Comptroller-General's Department, was found by police investigators to be the driver of a Nissan car that hit Maj Hathaiporn Imwitthaya, alias Mor Muk, a 34-year-old doctor at Phra Mongkut Hospital, on June 11.

Mor Muk remains in hospital, recovering from severe brain injuries.

On reporting to the police, Col Saksit was further questioned by Pol Maj-Gen Amnuay Nimmano, deputy chief of the Metropolitan Police, and Pol Maj-Gen Wichai Sangprapai, chief of Metropolitan Police Division 1.

The investigators and Maj Hathaiporn's mother Pannakorn earlier expressed doubt that Col Saksit was really the driver of the car.

They later agreed that Col Saksit was at the wheel after footage from security cameras showed he was driving his wife, daughter and his daughter's friend in the car.

A purported surveillance camera video posted on YouTube by CiNNtv1 shows a car (in the red circle) making a U-turn, pausing briefly and then hitting Maj Hathaiporn (in the blue circle) as she was about to get into her car on the night of June 11, 2011. After the car hit the woman doctor, it made another U-turn and fled with its headlights turned off.
