Euro 2012, the old-fashioned way
Denmark, Germany win
Large numbers of local football fans were left in the lurch after cable TV operator TrueVisions blocked the big Euro 2012 kick-off to subscribers.
About two million TrueVisions subscribers were left looking at a blue screen with an apology for the ban.
But some clever viewers got around the problem by unplugging their TrueVisions connections and using 40 baht bunny rabbit antennas to watch the opening matches on free channels.
TrueVisions is in negotiations with GMM Grammy, holder of the broadcast rights, to allow its subscribers to watch the football matches on the three free channels and it expects to conclude the matter by tomorrow or Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Denmark blew Euro 2012's Group of Death wide open through an opportunistic goal by Michael Krohn-Dehli in an astonishing 1-0 win over the Netherlands at Metalist Stadium in Kharkiv, Ukraine.
Although the Netherlands had more than 60 per cent of possession and 28 shots at goal, it was Sparta Rotterdam midfielder Krohn-Delhi who handed his Denmark side the three points from the Group B match when he drove the ball through the legs of goalkeeper Maarten Stekelnburg on 24 minutes.
In the late match, Germany defeated Portugal 1-0 on a goal in the 72nd minute by Mario Gomez.
The match seemed destined to finish goalless with both sides reluctant to commit bodies forward, but Gomez settled the match in Germany's favour when he rose to head Sami Khedira's deflected cross beyond Portugal goalkeeper Rui Patricio on 72 minutes.
