2/01/2013

PATHUM THANI - A former local politician was arrested for refusing to co-operate with the police and threatening them with his "connections" after he and his driver were stopped at an alcohol checkpoint.

Police set up a regular alcohol checkpoint in Sam Khok district as part of the holiday campaign to curb drunk driving and accidents on Tuesday night..

Saccha Krachabnak and his driver Prasit Buadet were pulled over by the police and asked to take an alcohol test, reports said.

Mr Saccha blasted the police and refused to let his driver take the test. He claimed to be a former politician in Sam Khok district and said he had “high level” connections in the government.

"I can transfer you to the (troubled-plagued) southern provinces,” he told the police.

"Why don’t you do your job and go arrest drug dealers, this is New Year, people should be allowed to have some fun,” after which he hurled curses at the officer.

The whole conversation was video recorded, although the person who recorded the clip was not identified.

After much discussion, the police persuade Mr Prasit to take the test and the alcohol level in his blood was over the limit, at 140 ml, and he was charged with drink driving.
