sanctuary

(1)a place where birds or animals can live and be protected, especially from hunters or dangerous conditions เขตสงวนพันธุ์สัตว์ป่า (2) a safe place, often one where people who are being chased or attacked can stay and be protected ที่หลบภัย

In 2001, the Burmese government designated 6,475 square kilometres of the Hukaung Valley as a wildlife sanctuary, based on the first biological expedition of the area in 1999.

The 360-rai park, located about one kilometre from the protest focal point, Ratchaprasong intersection, became the demonstrators' sanctuary from the hot concrete streets and the high-stress atmosphere.

Unfortunately, for some people, their home, that which ought to be a sanctuary of love and safety, is a place of fear and violence.
