For the first time in Bangkok, the Mahidol University Choir will join the Mahidol Symphonic Choir to perform Ein Deutsches Requiem (A German Requiem) (1868), the largest choral piece written by Johannes Brahms.

The first concert will be performed at the College of Music Auditorium at Mahidol University's Salaya campus, Nakhon Pathom, on Wednesday at 7pm; the second at Assumption Cathedral (near the Mandarin Oriental, Bangkok) on Thursday at 8pm.

Written for a large chorus, an orchestra and two soloists, Ein Deutsches Requiem can provide hope and consolation in times of darkness and despair.

To be conducted by Henri Pompidor and Randal Buikema respectively, the university's choral directors, both performances of the Requiem will feature a four hand piano version by Bakhtiyor Allaberganov and Yoshimi Matsushima. The soloists will be two students from the Mahidol College of music - Sasaya Chavalit, soprano, and Tulanan Narasetapisarn, baritone.

Also on the programme is Song for Athene, a choral piece written in 1993 by John Tavener.

Tickets are 200 baht for the first concert, 300 baht for the second (100 baht for students for each). For more information and reservations, call 02-800-2525 ext 154/5 or visit http://www.music.mahidol.ac.th/muc.
