A young student from Phetchaburi recently won the "Bring Good Things to Life 2009" award.

‘Colours of Faith’ by Suwapat Khamtawee.

Suwapat Khamtawee, 14, was the winner of the junior high school category for her Colours of Faith, a painting inspired by a ceremony to bury look nimit or round-shaped stones placed under the boundary marks around the main chapel of a temple.

Suwapat said she frequently makes merit at a local temple and chose the event as her theme. "Merit-making is true happiness for Buddhists," she said.

She was presented the award by HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn at the Exhibition Hall of the National Gallery. The artworks of winners and finalists are on display at the exhibition. Also on display are works by prisoners, who joined the competition, the 21st of its kind.

The exhibition is on display at the National Gallery, 9am to 4pm, until Saturday.
