Another year of RBSO memories at Lumpini
The grand finale of RBSO's 'Concert In The Park' programme.

The Royal Bangkok Symphony Orchestra (RBSO) performed the grand finale of Season 31 of "Concert In The Park" earlier this month. The season began in December last year at the Thai Royal Horse Guard, Sanam Pao, and continued at the Sala Bhirombhakdi in Lumpini Park in January. Each Sunday, audiences filled the grass, bringing food to share, mats and chairs, to enjoy music conducted by Dr Vanich Potavanich and Dr Nora-ath Chanklum, including Western pop culture, musicals, familiar Thai songs and classical music.

The popularity of these events was evidenced by the eagerness of audiences who showed up early to secure the best seats possible. The joyous atmosphere, interactive quizzes and vibrant music attracted passersby and weekly visitors to an enjoyable Sunday evening. The RBSO worked with amazing guest vocalists and the charismatic presenter Dr Apichart Intravisit. All their performances truly enriched the events. Each singer gave memorable performances, bringing their own style and range to the songs. On occasion, the audience was involved through singalongs, clapping and even waving flashlights. The programme changed weekly and as such, each performance remained diverse, energetic and fun with never a repetitive moment.

With the goal of music education in mind, the RBSO is also a platform for young artists to display their talents. Two young Thai composers, Pimta Kaewsuralikhit and Runchida Boonsinsukh, were part of the "Young Composer Series" which gave students an opportunity to send their compositions to the artistic committee. Once selected, the RBSO performed these aspiring composer's pieces. This inspires young composers by giving them a chance to express themselves. Another avenue for music development was through special performances from students of the Royal Bangkok Symphony Music School as a prelude to the regular concert in the park, and some students showed off the results of their studies by bravely performing in front of a large audience.

The attendees included locals, foreigners and various age groups, all gathering to enjoy the music, a testament to the ability of these concerts to bring people and the community together. This festival of concerts has the potential for international appeal and serves as another form of soft power. The RBSO, along with its sponsors, is honoured to provide this experience to the public. The positive reception and consistent participation made this year a truly unforgettable season of "Concert In The Park".

The "Concert In The Park" series is brought to you by the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, Tourism Authority of Thailand, Boon Rawd Brewery and B.Grimm.
