The Siam Society was founded in 1904 under royal patronage in order to share and promote information regarding Thailand with the wider world. The society is located on Asoke Road in Bangkok. It houses a library, a traditional northern Thai-style house and a folk museum. The society organises study trips to historical sites, cultural events and nature sites in Thailand and overseas. It also holds lectures several times a month on a variety of topics. The Journal of the Siam Society and the Natural History Bulletin are published annually and distributed free to members. The Society also is a publisher of other scholarly books; holds musical, dance and dramatic performances; hosts exhibitions and conferences; and works with cultural preservation projects. Today, the Siam Society consists of both Thais and foreign members. It is a non-profit organisation dedicated to its founding cause.
