To inject a traditional touch into celebrations for the Chinese New Year, Seacon Square is hosting a series of Chinese-opera shows in Teochew, Thai and international styles.
They will entertain visitors to the Sueb San Tamnan Mungkorn Fair which will run from Feb 8 to 12 at both the Srinakarin Road and Bang Khae branches.
The highlight promises to be The Teochew Wife, a consistently popular Chinese opera in the international style which was once regularly staged in the Yaowarat area. It will be presented by well-known local troupe Ameng Por Pla. Its founder, Ajarn Amphol Charoensuklarp, will also take part in the performance.
The fair will also feature a variety of products regarded as being auspicious such as saplings of trees with names related to money or prosperity, items made from jade, stones representing the 12 signs of the zodiac, talismans, "lucky" porcelain, objects used in ancient Chinese rituals plus traditional clothing, accessories and authentic Chinese food.
