Theatre Guild is staging Art, a comedy based on the French-language play of the same title by Yasmina Reza that raises the questions about art and friendship. It will be staged at the Bluebox Studio @ M Theatre early next month.
The story revolves around three long-time friends. Serge, indulging his penchant for modern art, buys a large, expensive, completely white painting. Marc is horrified and their relationship suffers considerable strain as a result of their differing opinions about what constitutes art. Yvan, caught in the middle of the conflict, tries to please and mollify both of them.
The performances might be a bit nerve-racking for Paul Wilson, who plays Marc, because he will be making his stage debut. Nimit Narula (playing Yvan), Michael D. Wykoff (playing Serge) and Michael J. Allman (director) have all trod the boards before.
In fact, they recently appeared together in the Bangkok Community Theatre production of The Country Wife.
Art will be performed in English at Bluebox Studio @ M Theatre on New Phetchaburi Road on March 1 and 2 at 7.30pm and on March 3 at 4pm. Tickets cost 450 baht (400 baht each for a group of 10 or more) and are available from Theatre Guild.
