The Bangkok Symphony Orchestra (BSO) is preparing to take to the stage to celebrate 30 years of playing.
The orchestra's anniversary concert will take place on March 10 at the Thailand Cultural Centre at 2pm.
The first half of the programme will be a repeat of the BSO's inaugural concerts on Nov 26 and 27, 1982, to commemorate those evenings, marking as they did the inception of Bangkok's first privately administered professional orchestra.
That year was the bicentennial of the capital, and those initial concerts were presented as a birthday tribute to His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej.
As the BSO's artistic odyssey now moves into its fourth decade, key figures involved in setting up the orchestra remain part of the day-to-day organisation and implementation of plans, including the Bangkok Symphony School.
Contributing to its sense of continuity and tradition, three original musicians are still BSO members and will appear at this concert _ the cellists Kittikhun Sodprasert and Tewet Mingkhwan, and violist Chaiwat Booranamanat.
Tickets start at 400 baht from Thai Ticket Major. Call 02-262-3456 or visit www.thaiticketmajor.com.
