Ballet double bill on pointe

Dance lovers in the North can expect a colourful show this month with a ballet double bill from the Chiang Mai Ballet Academy.
The academy is staging Legend Of The Rose and Little Mermaid 2013, at Kad Theatre in Kad Suan Kaew shopping complex, Chiang Mai, on March 31 at 1.30pm and 7pm.
The shows will feature a range of dance styles, such as classical ballet, jazz, modern, Thai contemporary, Latin dance, hip-hop and flamenco.
It is organised as part of the 11th "Charity Musical Dance Play" by the academy's Parents and Teachers Association to celebrate HM the King's 85th birthday anniversary, HM the Queen's 80th anniversary and HRH Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn's 60th anniversary.
The principal cast members are foreign and Thai ballet dancers who have received prizes from many international dance competitions from Asia, Australia, Europe, and America.
They include Shan Del Vecchio, Megumi Nishimori, Cathrin Ballmer, Sirikwanchanok Singtong, Nutsupa Moonmuang and Peera Phanlukthao, who has a PhD from the UK. They will be joined by Narach Kitavadhana, a baritone singer who received the HRH the Crown Prince's scholarship to study Italian bel canto in London and has performed for the special guests of the Royal Project for more than 19 years.
More than 400 students from the academy will take part in the performance. The artistic director is ML Preeyapun Sridhavat.

Tickets cost 200, 300, 500, 800 and 1,000 baht (with special prices for student groups) and can be purchased from the information counter, ground floor of Kad Suan Kaew and directly from the academy. Tickets include the chance to win door prizes including air tickets from Thai Airways International. There will be the chance to win prizes from five-star hotels and restaurants in Chiang Mai.
Proceeds will go towards the Friends in Need (of Princess Pa) Volunteers Foundation, Thai Red Cross Society.
The audience is encouraged to wear shades of gold as a symbol of support for HM the King.
