All Soul Production is coming up with a new experimental play, which will portray Shakespeare's Hamlet in a new light. Hamlet! will be staged at All Soul Chamber Theatre on April 26 to 28 at 8.30pm.
Hamlet is one of the most famous tragedies written by William Shakespeare around 1600. It is a simple, irrational, strangely gratifying story, like some savage stone, wave-worn but intact.
A tragedy of a passionate and indecisive avenger, Hamlet tells the story of Prince Hamlet of Denmark who knows his obligations, but always runs out of time. He has to avenge his father, killed by his ambitious brother. He knows, but he hesitates, even with proof. Why? That's the question that has caught passionate critics', academics' and artists' attention for centuries.
The new version, Hamlet!, precedes the events of the play, creating a new action. It is like an oracle speaking to the heart of each generation about our time.
All "manpower" (undertakers, clowns, players, soldiers) play close to the "royal family's components" because their beliefs (in ghosts, supernatural signs) become the protagonists of a power struggle.
Hamlet! is directed by Maurizio Mistretta with, on stage, Antonio Meze, Goravee Tipsuk, Jaruyot Suwannabut, Kasaempath Vanichtanya, Kazu Ribeiro, Somchanok Tiyoa Meze, Sudkaneung Buranarachada and Tanwarat Boonyarit.
Tickets cost 250 and 500 baht. Places are limited to only 30 people per performance. All Soul Chamber Theatre is located at KS Residence on Sukhumvit Soi 54.
