Information

Buildings have character and history, and German architect and photographer Gerrit Engel has dedicated himself to capturing this through his lens. The results can be seen at, an "Gerrit Engel: Berlin", an exhibition of 42 pictures presented by the Goethe Institute at the ASA Center, 5th floor of Siam Discovery from May 7-31. Detached from the hustle and bustle of the metropolis, Engel captures buildings as witnesses of time, each with its own character, and presents them in a new light, inviting viewers to follow the history of architecture. He captures all his pictures with an analogue large-format camera in front of a white sky - like a passport picture. He presents all nuances of architecture from a neutral, distanced perspective. Nothing is staged or beautified. All exhibits have been arranged in chronological order. The exhibition has previously been shown in Hong Kong, Sydney, Jakarta and most recently Singapore, before making its way to Bangkok. To accompany the exhibition, Goethe Institute will offer guided tours at 11am and 3pm on May 11 and 12, May 18 and May 25 and 26, plus a screening of two architecture-related documentaries - The Photographers Bernd And Hilla Becher on May 12 and Bauhaus: Model And Myth on May 26. Both screenings start at 2pm. An architectural photography workshop will be conducted by Piruk Anurakyawachon on May 19 from 10am to 5pm. The exhibition and all accompanying programmes are free of charge. Contact Goethe Institute on 02-287-0942.
