Deftones keep their promise

Sacramento’s Deftones will rock the Bangkok stage for the first time at Centerpoint Studio on May 23 at 9pm.

Instead of turning a deaf ear to fans, Deftones are set to deliver on a promise they made two years ago and rock the stage in Bangkok. The Sacramento band broke the hearts of many fans when they called off what was supposed to be their debut concert here two years ago.

Now, everyone hopes history will not repeat itself as the Sacramento rock quintet gets set for a high-energy live performance at Centerpoint Studio on Soi Lasalle on May 23 at 9pm.

Since their inception in 1988, the Grammy-winning alternative band has quietly been pursuing two paths, delivering songs defined by churning, double-fisted aggression while quietly testing the boundaries of music by incorporating elements of psychedelia and shoegazing.

Their platinum-certified, Billboard-topping 2000 album White Pony earned rave reviews for incorporating the moodiness of bands like the Cure and Slowdive, but the group has taken a more experimental path since then, revealing a clear restlessness with convention and repetition in their music.

Picking up where 2010's lauded Diamond Eyes left off, the group's seventh album, Koi No Yokan is their boldest yet. Both ferociously melodic and dizzyingly expansive, the album moves from the pensive to the pulverising _ often in the space of a single song.

Deftones comprises Chino Moreno (vocals), Stephen Carpenter (guitars), Abe Cunningham (drums), Frank Delgado (keyboards, turntables and samples) and Sergio Vega (bass).

Tickets cost 2,000 baht (1,800 baht for early birds) and can be purchased from The Rock Pub (tel 081-666-4359 or visit and Thai Ticket Major booths (tel 02-262-3456 or visit
