A group of 20 dancers from the Philippines highlands will be flown in to charm Bangkok audiences with Cordilleran dance and music early next month.
"Intako Mensagni - Let's Go Dancing" is a cultural and charitable event presented by United Filipinos in Thailand (UFT) to promote the rich diversity of the Filipino culture.
Scheduled for June 2 at 7.30pm, the evening will feature regional music and dances by the Hapiyoh Mi troupe from Baguio City, who will perform a two-hour routine.
The group will exhibit Cordilleran traditional arts, tribal songs and dances of love, peace, war, praise and giving thanks. The dance routine will express the multicultural diversity of the Cordillera region and the performers will demonstrate the evolution of socialisation, commerce and interrelationships that brought about their beliefs and practices, preserving their distinctive customs and traditions.
The troupe is an institutional performing group of the University of the Cordilleras Center for Creative Productions. Its members are all students who have roots in the Cordilleras, and the aspiration of the group is to promote and preserve the rich culture of the Cordilleran people.
Tickets cost 750 baht including a cocktail reception at 6pm, and can be purchased at the reception. Proceeds will be given to charitable organisations in Bangkok and the Philippines.
