Seacon Square is taking you to the land of bananas during the Baitong Krong Muang Fair, which runs from Friday to July 7.
This year's event will be set in the atmosphere of Sukhothai's famous 119-year-old Rim Yom Kong Krailat market where visitors will see the old wooden houses and learn about the lifestyle of the people living there. The market was established in 1894 and is located on the banks of the Yom River.
They can also experience the community trading of the old days where products are on display on bamboo stretchers erected right in front of the houses.
The fair aims to be the source of the most extensive knowledge about bananas. Stories of long and deep relationships between the local people and kluay tanee (musa balbisiana) will be demonstrated and a wide variety of dishes popular at the market and an extensive selection of bananas will be available.
Meanwhile, popular dishes from the Rim Yom Kong Krailat market will be featured. The dishes include kuay jab mordin, chaokuay Rim Yom, deep-fried fish cake, fermented fish, thong muan, khanom phing, khao perb (noodles filled with assortment of eggs and minced pork served on baked-clay plate), and many more.
Also available are wickerworks, Kong Krailat T-shirts, postcards, souvenirs, ancient toys, and foods made from different kinds of bananas such as kluay nam wa, kluay khai, kluay hak mook, kluay hom and kluay tanee. All foods will be served in banana leaves and drinks in baked-clay cups.
