Hundreds of sculptural masterpieces from the famous Ceramic Department of Bangsai Arts and Crafts Training Centre in Ayutthaya will be on show at Siam Paragon for a week starting today. Held to commemorate HM Queen Sirikit’s 81st anniversary, ‘‘The Thai Arts & Crafts Exhibition by Bangsai Arts & Crafts Training Centre’’ is an opportunity to see more than 400 ceramic pieces specially crafted for this event by 18 artists. Highlights include a bone-china lamp, which features a delicate fish-design bas relief by the centre’s director Vivek Arunrat, a series of round-relief sculptures in animal forms titled ‘‘The Last Flock’’ by Panom Sematong, head of the ceramic department and winner of the 13th National Ceramics Exhibition in 2006, and a one-of-a-kind pot made of 3,000 colourful ceramic beads by instructor Hathairat Muangmai. There are also vases inspired by the Phi Ta Khon festival in the Northeast, a series of perforated sculptures showcasing images of swimming fish, spraypainted jars, carved vases, ceramic coral reefs, graphic trays, and more. All of the ceramic works on show are also available for sale, starting at 25 baht. Part of the proceeds will be presented to HMthe Queen in support of the centre. The exhibition also features free daily demonstrations conducted by artisans. They will show how to mould, sculpt and paint ceramics. Call 02-610-8000.
