A lighthearted comedy poking fun at boot camp by one of the world's most successful playwrights will be staged at Bangkok University's Black Box Theatre, Rangsit campus, from Sept 12.
BU Theatre Company's Thai version of Biloxi Blues is based on the semi-autobiographical play of the same name by Neil Simon. The play is the second in Simon's famous Eugene trilogy telling the story of Eugene Morris Jerome from adolescence in New York City, through his time spent in basic training in Biloxi, Mississippi, during World War II, and to the start of his career as a comedy writer. Biloxi Blues premiered on Broadway in 1985 and was later made into a film.
The young recruit, Eugene, struggles to make three wishes come true while serving in boot camp. The wishes are becoming a writer, not being killed in battle and losing his virginity.
The production is the first in BU Theatre Company's The Repertoire 2013 theatre project. Two more plays will be presented in October and November.
Students from Bangkok University's Performing Arts Department will perform the show every Thursday to Saturday from Sept 12-28. The show time is 6pm, plus a 2pm matinee show on Saturdays.
