Greenpeace Southeast Asia (Thailand) is inviting everyone to show their love for Krabi by joining the “Greenpeace Mini Marathon—Run for Krabi” on May 18. The underwater ecosystem in this Andaman coastal province — hailed as the Emerald of the Andaman — is now under threat by a coal power-plant project. The race is thus held to raise awareness on the issue and encourage Thais to be part of the movement to protect the southern jewel. The race will start at 6am at Rama VIII Bridge and runners will proceed to the elevated Borommaratchonnani Road before returning to the finish line at the bridge. The mini marathon (10.5km) is open to male and female runners in four age groups — under 29 years, 30-39 years, 40-49 years, and over 50 years. The top five winners of each age group will take home a ‘Protect Krabi’ trophy. There is also a fun run (5km) open to everyone of all ages. The registration fee is 300 baht and the race is limited to 1,000 runners. All participants will receive a Protect Krabi marathon shirt and everyone who makes it to the finish line will receive a medal. There are also five special prizes for the best-dressed runners on the theme “On the Beach”. - To register online, visit - For more information, visit or call 02-741-1900, 081-867-5262 or 081-498-9865.
