Ronnarong Khampha, a dancer/choreographer from the Lanna region who has performed all over the world, will present a set of new solo pieces in Chiang Mai at the end of this month. Held in collaboration with Flux, I (Kraphom, in Thai) is a solo Lanna contemporary dance piece featuring movement techniques combined with voice and installation art. It will be staged at Chiang Mai University’s Art Centre on June 28 and has been described as “a new dance experience where a moving body is propelled by inner soul and massive joy expressed through slow and delicate movements and then sudden furious action — following the rhythm of time and music”. Ronnarong was captivated by the charm of traditional Lanna dance from an early age. He graduated with an honours degree in Thai arts from Chiang Mai University in 2005. Ronnarong has developed his own style using traditional dance as the base, venturing into contemporary aesthetics. He also studied Javanese and Balinese dance in Indonesia and uses Indonesian motifs to augment his contemporary work. -  Tickets for the performances on June 28 (at 2.30pm and again at 7.30pm) will cost 250 baht (150 baht for students). - For reservations or more information, email, visit or call 087-817-2734.
