D&M Music Studio will host a piano recital by Joseph Stefanits, a prominent concert performer from Chicago, on June 27 at the Goethe-Institut Thailand. The concert will see the American pianist perform mostly Latin American musical compositions by the likes of Heitor Villa Lobos, Ernesto Nazareth, Mateo Albeniz and many more. Stefanits, who graduated with honours from Roosevelt University’s Chicago Musical College, has written more than 40 pieces of music, mainly for piano. As well as performing weekly before thousands at the world-renowned Walnut Room, Chicago, for 13 years, he has also performed as a soloist with the Northwest Chicago Symphony Orchestra on several occasions. As an inspired interpreter of Chopin, Stefanits is an authority on South America piano literature. His background as a music historian and researcher is extensive and he is a highly regarded authority on the life and recordings of the 20th-century pianist Alfred Cortot. As such, Stefanits is a much sought-after teacher and is in demand both as an instructor of enthusiasts as well as professional musicians. The concert begins at 8pm. Tickets cost 500 baht (250 baht for students) and are available from Robinson Piano Showroom at Siam Discovery (call 02-658-1080/1). For more information, call 081-682-8000.
