The ‘Trafs 2014’ fair will stage a culinary competition showcasing dishes by professional and junior chefs.

If you are planning to buy or source new food and drink equipment and supplies for hotels or retail services, the eighth Thailand Retail, Food & Hospitality Services (Trafs) exhibit is about to return.

“Trafs 2014”, which will run from July 24-27 at Bitec on Bang Na-Trat Road, will see almost 140 exhibitors from more than 30 countries showcasing more than 450 brands of products for hotels, resorts, serviced apartments, condominiums, fine dining establishments, catering services, restaurants and retail shops.

According to Kavin Kittiboonya, managing director of Kavin Intertrade Co, Trafs 2014 organiser, the exhibit includes products for hotel guest rooms, kitchens and dining rooms, cleaning equipment and IT software and hardware.

This year’s event also includes two new highlights — the “New Product Launch Zone”, which allows buyers to preview new technology and products before placing orders, and the “Simulated Bar Concept”, in which a counter serves alcoholic beverages provided for owners of rapidly growing pubs and bars.

“Pubs, cars and restaurants serving spirits and liquors are booming among Thais and tourists. The new concept will enable potential buyers and visitors to meet with product exhibitors,” Kavin said.

Other features include a popular masterclass demonstrating live cooking (Thai, Chinese and Western cuisine) and baking by renowned chefs from the Thailand Culinary Academy.

Eight menu items, including milk rolls, chocolate truffle tarts, Mont Blanc and strawberry shortcake will be especially created for visitors in food service businesses, allowing them to learn tips and tricks for their working places. Recipes will be provided for free.

The exhibition also serves as a stage for an exciting culinary competition showcasing hot and cold dishes in which professional and junior chefs will compete to prepare different types of food, such as Western and Thai cuisine, wedding cake showpieces and petits fours. Other activities include a housekeeper bedding competition and the annual Front Office Managers Alliance and Concierge meeting, which will update its members on industry knowledge and market trends.

Trafs 2014 will run concurrently with the 10th Thailand Franchise & Business Opportunities 2014. This business event is Asean’s largest franchise and business opportunities show and will bring together 150 franchise brands from 10 countries. Franchise products offered in the show will include food and beverage, education, car care, beauty and spa, printing services, vending machines, IT, jewellery and forest plantation investment.

“The Thailand Franchise & Business Opportunities 2014 offers a good opportunity for anyone looking for alternative investments giving higher yield compared with bank saving deposit interest rates,” Kavin said. “I would advise visitors to pre-register online at www.thailandhoreca.com to avoid long queues when arriving at the show space.”

Trafs 2014 is fully supported by public and private sectors, including the Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau, the National Food Institute, the Thai Chefs’ Association, Thailand Culinary Academy, the Thai Bakery Association, Thailand Food & Beverage Management Thailand and the Front Office Managers Alliance and Concierge.
