There is nowhere in Bangkok like Bed Supperclub. Inside a big, white, tubular room, diners recline, Roman-style, on two tiers of beds. Singers, poets, masseurs and lobsters promenade among them. It's preposterous, it's pretentious, and if you're in the mood, it's magnificent.
The short set menu changes often, depending on the whims of Chef Paul Hutt, but dishes will always be imaginative. A starter might be duck and palm heart salad, served in a takeaway carton; or tomato soup with distinct tortilla chip undertones. Smoked venison loin is a substantial main course, demonstrating good cooking skills as well as smart ideas. For dessert, the chocolate gelato (with strawberry puree, meringue, black sesame) is outstanding. But the best effort is the most clever: soft taleggio cheese, frozen solid with liquid nitrogen, then grated and served with tamarind-quince paste. Molecular gastronomy as a first -- so simply lie back and welcome it.
