Choreographer Jitti Chompee and his 18 Monkeys Dance Theatre are staging "Lieber Adzio", a modern dance piece which revolves around two people who only know each other with their eyes.
18 Monkeys Dance Theatre will stage ‘Lieber Adzio’ at Sodsai Pantoomkomol Centre for Dramatic Arts this weekend.
It will be staged at Sodsai Pantoomkomol Centre for Dramatic Arts, Chulalongkorn University, on Saturday at 7.30pm and Sunday at 2pm and 7.30pm.
The production features Jitti's interpretation, intertwining traditional and modern dance. It also features a piece by Berlin-based composer Dirk P Haubrich. It was created in Thailand and resorts to traditional Thai dance as well as to today's electronic elements.
A graduate in chemical engineering from Chulalongkorn University, Jitti was trained classical ballet by David Shields and William Morgan then received a scholarship from the Jean M. Wong school of ballet in Hong Kong and a full-time scholarship at the Ailey School in New York.
He founded the 18 Monkeys Dance Theatre as a director and the company will be touring in Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay and France next year.
Haubrich made a name for himself with compositions for the Frankfurt Ballet and the Nederlands Dans Theater. He studied with Phillip Wachsmann during a four-year residence in London before moving to The Hague, the Netherlands, to study electronic music composition at the Royal Conservatory Sonology.
He has worked closely with Krisztina de Chatel, Bruno Listopad and Jiri Kylian. He has premiered his compositions in various theatres around the world.
