Life in Thailand’s three southernmost provinces has been seen as grim and full of grief. But amid the violence, the locals still carry on with life, and this is what a photo exhibition entitled “Deep South Insight: Women Across Barriers” is all about.

Organised by Oxfam (Thailand) in collaboration with Unilever Foundation and Museum Siam, the exhibition features photos by seven leading documentary photographers from the Foto United group, comprised of the founder of the group and SEA Write laureate Chiranan Pitpreecha, multi-award winning photojournalist Vinai Dithajohn, Charoon Thongnual, Jirapong Wongwiwat, Dusit Semangern, Hasachai Bonnuang and Athit Perawongmetha.

Curated by Chiranan Pitpreecha, the exhibition features photos that reflect the lives of people in Thailand’s three southernmost provinces — Yala, Pattani and Narathiwat. The images portray the locals and their ways of life and try to convey the message that despite the insurgency, there is still beauty in the area.

The exhibition is on display every day (except Monday) from 10am to 6pm at Museum Siam on Sanam Chai Road until April 13. Admission is free.
