An Australian-born artist living in Bangkok, Ellie Dixon, will showcase a surreal series of pastel illustrations inspired by Bangkok's cityscape at Neilson Hays Library's Rotunda and Garden Cafe galleries for one month starting today.

"Lost In Bangkok" is her first solo exhibition in the capital and focuses on people's relationships with the city.

Inspired by surrealists, Mexican muralists and Marvel comics, her characters and environments are conceptualised through a personal interpretation of her own surroundings and imagination.

According to the artist, the exhibition symbolises the emotional journey of adapting to her new life in Thailand after the loss of her partner last year.

"The ever-changing girl that features in each piece is a representation of myself and the different phases I have passed through as I reflected on the past," said Ellie. Each work is a different window into her experience, sometimes joyful and celebratory, other times lonely and confusing. One thing that is consistent in this series is the merging of the girl with the cityscape.

"Bangkok has healed me in a way I could never have imagined. The richness of the culture, the golden temples and colourful lifestyle has offered a spiritual home where I have found my happiness again," the artist said. "'Lost In Bangkok' is a visual testament not only to my healing but to the beauty of Bangkok."

'Lost In Bangkok' will wrap up on Sept 15. The opening reception is today at 6pm. The library is on Surawong Road and open from Tue-Sun from 9.30am to 5pm.
