Miyake's pleasing pleats in a bottle

Issey Miyake once described garment popping out of the pleating machine as "like toast from a toaster". His colourful "toast" became a big success under the label, Pleats Please, which was introduced in the early 1990s.

The lightweight and easy-to-wear apparel are referred to as being 2D and when worn reveal a three-dimensional form on the body. Pleats Please has now gone 4D, as you can smell it in a fragrance debuting in Asia next month before other parts of the world in spring 2013.

"Asia is Issey Miyake's home territory and that's why we want to introduce the Pleats Please fragrance to Asian markets first," said Danny Ventura, the international training operations manager for Beaute Prestige International.
