We've all probably gotten over the shock and incredulity of Bangkok becoming the World Book Capital next year. Hopefully, the year will be packed with book events and literary festivals of all sorts that will prove us worthy of the title we have been bestowed with. And since there aren't any lit gatherings happening in town at the moment, we can hop over and take a look at what Singapore is up to.

The Singapore Writers Festival 2012 will be from Nov 2-11. This festival has been lighting intellectual fires and filling pails since 1986. Last year, the festival drew 50,000 participants, 15,000 of whom were core people who joined in panels and workshops. Out of the 200 events that will be happening during the 10 days, including panel discussions, performances, lectures, book launches, workshops, chances to meet authors, literary meals or cocktails, surely at least one is sure to strike your fancy.
