Can you name best-selling management books? Famous business self-help book authors? Our hipsterish bookshelf is stacked with highly interesting management books on leadership, strategy, implementation and more -- there they all are, collecting dust, cellophane sleeves intact.

Guru chats with Dr Luis Danai Kristanin, one of Thailand's most sought-after management consultants. He has excelled in leadership development, executive coaching, human capital and change management. He will speak during the "MBA in One Day" event in November.

Is leadership something people are born with or something acquired through experience?

Dr Luis Danai Kristanin.

According to theories and experts, leadership is something people can acquire through experience. And from my direct experience in leadership consulting over the past 15 years, I believe that leadership can be developed.

What are the topics you will speak about?

I will share the leadership issues, starting from leading the self to leading others, businesses and change. As Peter Drucker once said, "Those who want to lead others must first learn to lead themselves."

What makes "MBA in One Day" interesting?

It was designed to summarise the key topics of studied while earning an MBA. If we measure all textbooks referred to in MBA curriculum, the length is eight metres. The content is updated every year, because the world is changing and there are new gurus and knowledge.

Who is it good for?

This program will be useful to four main target groups. The first group is executives who are in place, but find that they need to update their knowledge and understanding of leadership, strategy, organisation management and execution. Secondly, anyone who studied an MBA for years and would like to learn new knowledge, concepts or case studies that will be useful for their jobs and careers. The third group is people who plan to study for an MBA or in any management field. The fourth group is people who want to expand their professional network.

What are the most important qualities a leader can possess?

I find communication skills are very important to a leader. The way a leader composes and decodes a message and emotions in order to get the right response from his or her audience is crucial. It includes assertiveness for middle-management levels and listening and responding for senior and top leaders.

How do you make your talk engaging and fun?

"MBA in One Day" was designed to not only share theories and cases, but also to create learning experiences through activities and group dynamics that make audiences engaged with the speaker. The programme was properly designed to manage the momentum of learning in order to ensure that the audiences are with the speaker.

MBA in One Day will be held at C-Asean, MRT Thailand Cultural Centre, on Nov 14. Registration is B22,000. Visit www.mbainonedaythailand.com.
