Robert Franceschini wrote to say that he recently had to raise the ground in front of his house as it had sunk. The workers first put in sand and then soil to build it up.

''I have since planted and the plants are all doing well despite the fact that the soil they used is very clay-like, and when I dig it comes up in clumps. Is this type of soil OK and will the plants continue to do well, or should I be mixing something else in with the soil?'' he asked.
