The garbage truck arrives at the dumpsite and unloads tonnes of waste collected from the city. Inhabitants of the wasteland trawl through the piles in search of anything of value. The truck leaves again for more garbage. And the people wait; knowing there will always be more.
Part I: Waiting on a wasteland
Once inside the three-kilometre radius, the stench begins to fill the air. The wasteland is 600-rai (approximately one million square metres) and is the city's endpoint; mountains of putrid waste are formed every day from over 10,000 tonnes of garbage produced by Bangkok's citizens on a daily basis.
