You might guess that 18-year-old Paowaree Panpimol, the luk thung (Thai country music) trained singer and newcomer actress, might be shy, soft and demure. You'd be wrong. She is ready for her close-up and stardom. Just keep telling yourself she is only 18.
On the ninth floor of the IBM building where the Sahamongkol Film Company has its offices, Paowaree is prepped for a press conference for the movie Poompuang (The Moon), which opens on Thursday. In person, the beautiful young waif-like actress and talented vocalist doesn't look anything like the late luk thung queen Poompuang Duangchan. She looks like other well dressed, clean-looking bubbly teens you see in shopping malls. Only when she speaks, she makes sense.
"I auditioned twice before I landed the role. I was so excited, but then pressure got the best of me. I became nervous because I was assuming a lot of responsibility," she confesses in a strong Suphan Buri accent.
