Travel globally, Eat locally

Bangkok is full of restaurants geared to the various nationalities found here, and while some may be conspicuous, such as Japanese or Indian, authentic African or Danish food may take more sleuthing to find

People from many countries come to Thailand, either to visit or to live. If the latter, they generally form communities that allow them to get in touch with each other quickly and easily and exchange news of special interest. They will also have brought their traditional cuisines with them, and some cooks may prepare food for others in the community as a business.

The Pahurat neighbourhood, for example, is a community where many people from India live or visit as tourists or to do business. Food from different parts of India is easily available. The Soi Nana area of Sukhumvit is popular with people from the Middle East, and restaurants there serve dishes from Egypt, Lebanon and other countries in the region.

The Sukhumvit Soi 14 vicinity is sometimes called ''Little Japan'', and boasts not only Japanese restaurants but also a Japanese supermarket. People coming to Thailand from mainland China for business can find restaurants offering a choice of food from different parts of China in the Silom Road area near Narathiwat Srinakarin Road.
