During interviews, I am often asked where I get my inspiration from. I tell reporters that, basically my inspiration comes from all things around me, from what touches me at the time when my thinking and designing process is on high alert in combination with what materials are available to hand. Flowers and plants are always on top of the list of my inspiration. Then, there are elements I find during my sojourns overseas such as architecture, handicrafts, landscapes or even music.
In foreign lands, things of beauty that are well and alive in their cultural contexts never fail to impress and inspire me, especially how people dress and adorn themselves with the set of clothes in a style typical of a particular country complete with personal ornaments, such as necklaces, rings or bracelets that are typically made from or contain jewels and precious metal. In the same delicate way, our modern urban culture has inspired me with its many colours and forms. And in our time nothing seems to be more exciting than the ever-changing world of fashion.
Inspired by the zigzag pattern of Italian fashion house Missoni, I create today's simple floral display of white, green, pink, and burgundy using four varieties of chrysanthemums, while having a low square metal tray as my container.
