Singledom and the city

Thanks to my upbringing, I've never been a mall rat. I don't find the prospects of wading through all sorts of people to get a glimpse of whatever dreams they're selling all that appealing. As much as I like buying rubbish I don't need, I tend to know exactly what I want, and order online.
Also, I don't frequent cinemas. True, I've never been a movie buff, but I enjoy cinematic experiences. It's clear as day that going to a movie is pretty much a couple's ritual or a high school gang thing in Bangkok. Being a singleton and already out of high school, these days, I get my movie intakes from a much smaller screen or Kong Rithdee's reviews. It just doesn't feel right to ask friends who are in relationships to escort me to a movie when they'd probably want to go with their partners.
Then on Sunday, I made a plan to attend a comedy show with friends at CentralWorld in the evening, so I thought I would make a day out of being a true blue middle-class Bangkokian _ eating overpriced food, snacking, sipping iced chocolate, watching a movie. Things I don't normally do. I wanted to do it all by myself to have a "me" day.
