Local products, global stage

Up to 300 representatives from around the world are expected to join the "2013 Worldwide Symposium on Geographical Indications" which will take place at the Central Grand Hotel at CentralWorld from March 27 to 29.

The event is hosted by the Department of Intellectual Property (DIP) in collaboration with the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) which has more than 180 member states. The aim is to encourage Thais to be more aware of the significance of entrepreneurship and community development as well as distributing income to local communities by applying and commercialising GI. GI, or geographical indication, is a type of intellectual property which can be used as a tool to achieve business success on the global stage.

GI is a sign that identifies a product as originating from a particular location which gives that product a special quality or reputation or other characteristic.
