People will flock to the Royal Plaza this evening to pay respect at the King Rama V Equestrian Monument to mark King Chulalongkorn Memorial Day, or Wan Piyamaharaj. The monarch, who reigned from Oct 1, 1868, until his death on this day in 1910, is revered among Thais as he abolished slavery and also brought about reforms in several important areas including education and rail transport.
