Clooney is co-producing via his company Smoke House and also expects to take on the lead acting role in the film. Details about the plot of the as-yet-untitled film remain scant.

Smoke House is pushing the right buttons for any fan of the thriller genre, including rehiring Chris Terrio to draft the plot. The scriptwriter has become a hot commodity in Hollywood thanks to his work on Ben Affleck's box-office hit Argo.

Prior to teaming up with Greengrass, Clooney will star in the space drama Gravity by Alfonso Cuarón and will shoot the period drama The Monuments Men with Cate Blanchett, Jean Dujardin and Daniel Craig.

By the end of 2013, Greengrass will wrap up Captain Phillips, in which Tom Hanks will play a hostage of Somali pirates. The English filmmaker is also currently working on a movie about Martin Luther King's assassination.
