According to Deadline.com, Marvel Studios has added Joseph Gordon-Levitt to its list of potential leads for "Guardians of the Galaxy."

Gordon-Levitt, who played a key role in the last "Batman" film, is now in the running for the feature film set for release in 2014. Jim Sturgess ("Cloud Atlas") and Zachary Levi ("Chuck"), who were seen as favorites at the end of December, are also in the running. And as he revealed via his Twitter account @mrosenbaum711, so is former "Smallville" actor Michael Rosenbaum.

"Guardians of the Galaxy," which will be directed by James Gunn ("Super"), will allow the public to discover an intergalactic team of superheroes who have come from the future and from another dimension. The team is led by the charismatic Peter Quill, known as Star-Lord, who is half-human and half-extraterrestrial.

The film will introduce the characters before "The Avengers 2," set for release in 2015. Following the success of Summer, all or part of the Guardians of the Galaxy cast should be joining Iron Man's team and their consorts to defeat the Titan from space, Thanos.
