Action star caught with speed pills

Movie star Jaran Ngamdee was arrested in Kanchanaburi province for using methamphetamine pills, or yaba, police said on Tuesday.

Pol Col Thanarat Sonkla, superintendent of Dan Makham Tia police station in Kanchanaburi, said police at a checkpoint on a local road in Dan Makham Tia district on Monday night flagged down a motorist whose actions attracted their attention.

The driver was Jaran Ngamdee. He was asked to give a urine sample which tested positive for methamphetamine.

Jaran allegedly confessed to police that he had taken  methamphetamine.

Police said he also had methamphetamine pills in his possession, but did not say how many.

Jaran admitted he bought the pills from a drug dealer for 250 baht each, according to police.

He was taken to Dan Makham Tia police station for further questioning.

Jaran is best known for his starring action role as Jan Nuadkiew in the movie Bang Rajan - a popular film made in 2000 about the war between Myanmar and Thailand in the Ayutthaya period.

He also starred as King Naresuan in Khun Suek, as Mak in Ghost of Mae Nak, and as Chuwit in the movie Golden Massage Parlour Mogul.
