Forgiveness after the end of the affair

Panita ‘Ning’ Tumwattana and her husband ‘Jin’.

Actress and model Panita "Ning" Tumwattana has forgiven her husband for straying, after his love interest's mother embarrassed them both in a spirited defence of her daughter's actions.

Ning says her husband's affair with socialite Warrapan "Namwan" Pankongchuen is unlikely to spell the end of their marriage, as she has an infant to look after and cannot afford to be distracted.

The couple were married early last year.

"Everyone is born on this Earth with problems and obstacles. Love is hardly strewn with petals. For two people to decide to live together and form a family is never easy ... but nor does it have to be hard, if both form their relationship on the basis of understanding, forgiveness and acceptance," she said on Instagram last week.

Ning spoke out after her businessman husband, Jin Tumwattana, offered a public apology for his actions.

"I am responsible for everything that has happened, because I failed to show restraint. I apologise to everyone _ my family, Ning and our child. It's all over, and could I ask everyone to leave me and my family in peace."

The couple returned to each other's embrace after Jin's affair turned into tabloid fodder and threatened to humiliate them both. The ASTV Manager newspaper disclosed details of Jin's affair, without naming his love-interest Namwan.

Namwan, 22, the Bangkok-educated daughter of a Chiang Mai hotel and pub owner, is visiting the US. She keeps her Instagram fans updated on her travels, but has yet to respond to the drama unfolding at home.

Namwan's internet-savvy mother inadvertently identified her daughter as Jin's fling when she published on Instagram an intimate online exchange between the pair.

"I don't want to say much, as I don't want people to suffer more than they have already. But the truth is the truth," her mother, Ampaipan, wrote in response to criticism of her daughter.

A friend of Namwan's chimed in to warn off critics who blamed the young socialite for stealing another woman's husband.

"I don't support any move to break up someone's marriage. I feel sorry for the child and mother [Ning], and have never sided with her [Namwan] when she has done something wrong," a young woman known as Khae-priscilla wrote on Instagram.

"But coming down against one side or the other is unfair. You should look at both sides and ask the man why he isn't looking after his wife and child rather than messing around with another woman to the point where it has turned into huge news.

"Jin had told Namwan that he had left his wife, though had yet to make the news public. He had also offered her the couple's young daughter to look after," she said.

Ning said she had seen the online exchange between the pair, but was still prepared to overlook her husband's affair.

"For as long as we love each other, and are good to each other, these problems and obstacles are just thorns ... look on the positive side, they help us understand and love each other even more," she wrote.

"Everyone who has ever been a mother of a child of two months will know that we have to devote every moment of our time to them. When I give milk to my child I don't want any emotions to cause problems for me."

News reports on Friday said Ning had been admitted to hospital in shock after discovering her husband was still in contact with the socialite. Neither side has commented to the press.

Worked up in a lather

The mother of superstar Nadech "Barry" Kugimiya says she won't be deterred by criticism that she is interfering in his career, after a well-publicised spat between herself and a client of a multinational company that hires him as a presenter.

Sudarat "Kaew" Kugiyama says that she will always protect her son when she believes that his interests are being threatened.

Nadech has a multi-million baht contract with Unilever, which hires him to present Clear Men's shampoo.

Nadech and his mother went to Japan recently to film a fashion shoot for Lips magazine, a client of the firm.

Unilever had bought space in the magazine's pages with Nadech strutting his stuff for a fashion shoot.

The shoot was also intended to promote a movie in which the young actor appears, rather than merely serving as an opportunity to showcase the shampoo.

Lips suggested he appear in the pictures holding a bottle of Clear shampoo, but his mother reportedly objected, as it was not part of the agreement.

News reports say that when the duo returned to Bangkok, Unilever sent a bunch of flowers to his mother by way of apology _ which Kaew promptly returned, along with a copy of her son's contract, which expires in June.

Unilever is said to have responded angrily by yanking television advertisements in which Nadech appears.

Nadech's celebrity manager, Supachai "A" Sriwichit, said the reports of a dramatic falling out were overblown.

"Nadech's mother and the Lips crew had a minor disagreement, but it is over now. She never sent back the flowers in protest. They are still here with me," he said.

"I told them that I didn't want Nadech to hold the product, as that would represent what we call a tie-in. Just putting it by his side would be enough.

"If he has to hold it, we would charge extra for the labour. But they wanted to shoot it like that to please the client [Unilever], and because they know that when he is in Bangkok, Nadech is often too busy to pose for extra shots."

Kaew said she would rather shoulder the criticism for what happened than have her son targeted, as he was innocent.

"I am happy to be the only one who knows what really happened, and keep the truth to myself," she wrote on Instagram.

"I'm proud of the fact I'm able to protect my son. Some say I should not be on this path. But I will still ask everyone to give me the chance to be by my son's side, to travel alongside him forever."

Netizens were unimpressed.

"You are not protecting your son. You are an interfering busybody, causing him trouble, and conducting yourself in an inappropriate manner. When will your son grow up to be a man?" one critic wrote.

"Looking after your son, and thinking only of money, are two different things," another wrote.

No shrinking violet

Feisty actress Chermarn "Ploy" Boonyasak insists she did not fake her faint at a city function late last month, as she is the tough type who does not need the attention.

Ploy collapsed in what critics said was a suspiciously graceful faint as she took part in a function for Lux.

She had just left the stage and was making her way towards reporters when she fell to the ground.

"The doctor says I have a sinus infection. My nasal cavity is infected, and I have not eaten all day," she said at the time.

By last week, when reporters had caught up with her again, Ploy put aside fears for her health by dancing around for the cameras at a city fashion launch.

Only days before, she had returned from South Korea where she was taking a short break with her actor boyfriend, Navin "Tar" Yavapolkul.

Asked about criticism on the internet that she had faked being ill to promote her latest soap opera, Ploy said she was expecting negative feedback about her collapse. "We don't faint five days a week. And I don't need to create publicity for myself, as my lakorn is already on air," she said.

"I was genuinely sick. As I've said before, actresses work up until the last minute before they can rest."

Ploy says the Korea trip was booked long in advance, and she had no choice but to take it, even though she was still feeling ill.

"I went to Korea, and was sick for a couple of days over there, but did nothing but eat.

"I don't post pictures of myself looking sick so people pity me. I try to publish pictures of myself looking fresh and lively, because that's fun. As for the criticism, I knew I would wear it," she said.

The Korea trip clashed with the election for Bangkok governor last Sunday, which meant she was unable to cast a vote. Netizens have also criticised her for failing to show up on polling day.

"I'm sorry for setting a bad example, but next time I promise to get out there and vote," she said.
