Film comp to honour art great

The sculptor of many of the best-known monuments in Thailand, Professor Silpa Bhirasri is considered the father of this country's modern art. The respected Italian artist was the founder of Silpakorn University, and now is the subject of an upcoming short film competition.

Held for the first time, the competition will mark Silpa Bhirasri Day, which falls on Sept 15 each year, and celebrate the university's 70th anniversary. The event will also pay tribute to Prof Silpa's artistic contributions to the country.

The competition is open to students and members of the public who can enter as individuals or in teams. They are required to submit short films, no longer than 10 minutes, in any format, style or technique.

Entries must be submitted on a high-definition DVD compatible with any player.

The winner will receive a 100,000 baht cash prize plus a certificate and a Bhirasri medal. Three first runners-up will get 20,000 baht each along with a certificate and a medal. There are also five special honour prizes of certificates and medals.

Entries should be submitted to the Public Relations Department of the Dean of Students Office, Silpakorn University, 22 Boromratchonnanee Road, Taling Chan, Bangkok, 10170, between Aug 5 and 10.
