TOKYO - Japanese public broadcaster NHK's popular television drama series that ended last month, "Amachan," will be broadcast in Thailand and Taiwan, the broadcaster said Wednesday.
The series will start airing in Taiwan with Chinese subtitles in November and a dubbed version will start airing in Thailand in February, the broadcaster officially known as Japan Broadcasting Corp. said.
According to NHK, the series has also been aired with English subtitles since June by a Hawaii cable TV station targeting Japanese-Americans.
The story revolves around its heroine, Aki, who is played by Rena Nonen, as she struggles to become a diver in northeastern Japan and then an idol. It is set in contemporary Japan and portrays the 2011 quake and tsunami disaster that hit the region.
