Not banned, just tricked

Patcharasri ‘Kalamare’ Benjamas.

Presenter Patcharasri "Kalamare" Benjamas says she is the victim of a hoax in which her name was included in a list of Thais banned from leaving the country by the coup makers.

The Channel 3 personality took to Instagram on Friday to deny reports she was among those tied to the political unrest who have been banned from leaving the country by the National Council for Peace and Order.

She said her name appeared on a list, circulated widely on the internet, of the banned individuals. Her initial comments suggested it was merely a case of misspelling. "The Kalamare they actually want appears to have something to do with M79 grenade launchers and is a red shirt guard," she wrote.

However, when contacted by reporters, Kalamare said closer inspection of the document revealed it was actually fake.

"It's just a plain sheet of A4 paper, and lacks any official seal or the signature of coup leader Prayuth Chan-ocha," she said.

She asked her fans to spread the news that she was not subject to the travel ban.

Injections help Aum's tiredness

Superstar Patcharapa "Aum" Chaichuea says stem cell injections are helping relieve her tiredness, though it’s too early to say what other benefits they may bring.

Reports emerged last week that Aum had had nine stem cell injections to her face, for 600,000 baht each. Asked about the reports, Aum admitted the injections were expensive, but said she believes they help improve her health.

"They ease my sleeping disorder, and I feel less tired than before. But I know some of it comes down to what you believe," she admitted.

"I get sore hips when I wear high heels, and now take on less work than before. When I go to say my lines in soap operas, sometimes my tongue gets twisted, as my mind just wants rest," she said.

She has been told the injections also help keep the adrenal glands in order, though she has only just started treatment so it’s too early to tell.

Meanwhile, Aum says she welcomes news that her actress friend, May Feuangarom, is pregnant to her long-time boyfriend, presenter Kanchai "Noom" Kamnerdploi.

The couple last week announced they had registered their marriage in a private ceremony late last year, when May also discovered she was pregnant by assisted reproductive technology.

They kept the news from the public because five fortune-tellers had told May and Noom that announcing it would only bring bad luck. However, on the occasion of May’s birthday last week, the couple now felt the time was right to open up.

Stolen jewellery

Actress Rinlanee "Joy" Sripen is playing down the theft of diamond and pearl earrings from her hotel room, saying she loses things all the time.

Joy lost four earrings worth 800,000 baht as she was staying with friends and family in Nakhon Nayok early this month. She believes they were stolen from her hotel room, and has made a police complaint.

"I have confidence the police will help us, but I feel embarrassed to be attracting so much attention, as I blame myself for the oversight," she said.

Her mother, who accompanied her on the trip to Nakhon Nayok to make merit, kept the earrings in her bag, as she was scared her daughter would lose them.

"I didn’t intend to wear them, and in fact haven’t put them on for more than a month. But my mother keeps them in her bag permanently as they are valuable and she is afraid they will go missing.

"I forgot they were there. We stayed at the hotel early this month. I didn’t notice they were missing until two weeks later."

Her mother is stressed about the loss, as normally she keeps a close eye on the family’s belongings.

"She takes pictures of everything. We took them along when we laid our police complaint.

"Mum knows which items she keeps in the safe, which are kept at home, and which she keeps with her.

"Mum was stressed out. I was extremely relaxed, as I lose things all the time," she said.

Joy said she would take the theft as a lesson to be more careful.

Police say they are contacting pawn shops in the area but have yet to report any progress.

Green fanboy

Comedian Kotee Aramboy is defending his decision to post a message enthusing about Thai soldiers.

A day after the army declared martial law last Tuesday, Kotee reposted a popular graphic on his Instagram account backing the troops.

The image shows a soldier in black silouhette standing against a green background.

"We love Thai soldiers," the message reads.

Some of Kotee’s fans were unimpressed, asking why the rotund comedian had started making "political statements" now when he had steered away from such sentiments in the past. They asked if he was merely spinning an image for himself.

Kotee promptly took down the message, replacing it with 20 brief clips, some of him in tears, in which he admits he is annoyed to have his motives questioned.

"I'm not well educated. I don’t know who stands to benefit and who stands to lose when the troops come out to guard the streets. I can only talk about what I see," he says.

"Our soldiers are tired. I see them rise before dawn, and they are still standing guard late at night. Why do they and the police come out?

"They come out to stop Thais killing each other, which no one wants to see," he said.
